What is the Zelfverzekerd subsidy?

How it works, what you get and whether you qualify

What is it?

As a self-employed professional, you don’t get paid when you’re unable to work. Income protection cover can help with that — but it can be costly. That’s why the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has set aside funding for self-employed professionals in the cultural and creative sector. Platform ACCT uses this funding for the Zelfverzekerd scheme: a temporary financial contribution towards the costs of your disability insurance, mutual support circle (like a Broodfonds) or crowdsurance.

Who is it for?

Zelfverzekerd is for self-employed professionals in the cultural and creative sector who already have income protection cover. Whether you’re part of the target group is determined in part by your SBI code. An SBI code is a four or five digit code that indicates what type of work you do. You received it when you registered with the Chamber of Commerce. You can find it on your Chamber of Commerce extract. More information can be found in the requirements.

What do you get?

  • A first financial contribution towards your income protection costs
You receive 50% of your monthly costs for up to 12 months, with a maximum of €75 per month.
  • A second financial contribution towards your income protection costs
For an extra boost, you’ll receive this amount again 12 months after your first claim. You don’t need to do anything, the contribution is transferred to your account automatically.
  • Haven’t arranged anything yet? You may be eligible for a stimulansbonus (a one-off bonus to encourage you to get covered).
Did you take out income protection cover on or after 1 January 2025? Then on top of your monthly contribution, you’ll receive a one-off stimulansbonus of €200.

Good to know: you can only use this scheme once. Multiple applications are not possible.

What can I expect?

1 Application approved?
You’ll hear within two weeks whether your application has been approved.

2 First payment
You claim your costs afterwards. The approval email explains exactly how this works.

3 Second payment
Twelve months after your first claim, you’ll receive the second payment.

What you need for your application

  • Your Chamber of Commerce number
  • Your VAT number
  • Your personal bank account number
  • A scan or photo of your insurance policy or proof of participation in a mutual support circle (like a Broodfonds) or crowdsurance
  • A scan of your Chamber of Commerce extract

Ready?

Got everything to hand? Then you can submit your application now. It only takes a few minutes.

One more thing: this scheme is temporary and has a limited budget. Once the budget runs out, the scheme closes — and will not reopen. So don’t wait too long to apply.
